Mortality in Danish patients hospitalized with COVID-19 during the first wave of coronavirus pandemic

The study by Brieghel and colleagues describes prognostic factors of 90-day mortality in 263 patients admitted with COVID-19 from 2 March to 2 June 2020 to the Herlev-Gentofte Hospital in The Capitol Region of Copenhagen. The overall mortality of 29% was similar to that reported in other studies, whereas the intensive care unit mortality was 35%, which was lower than expected. Increasing age, Charlson Comorbidity Index, number of abnormal blood tests and the dose of oxygen needed to achieve a sufficient arterial saturation were independently associated with increased mortality.
